Nice clean rooms, lots of breakfast options and friendly staff. The bed however was a little firm for my liking and the balcony on our 4th floor room needed some attention. Room was exceptionally clean for the age of the hotel. This was one of the few hotels with a free and hot breakfast. Only small negative was the items at breakfast were not refilled in a timely manner. Our first morning we arrived at 8am to eat and the three cold beverage containers (water, juice) had about an inch in them, the pancakes were empty and the fruit bowl empty. People were standing there and nothing was refilled the entire time we were eating and lines of people were still coming in. Im still giving 5 stars because its not a big deal but its a large hotel and shouldnt be out of food. Very weird and humorous that someones hotel room was right in the middle of the breakfast room. In our room there was a worse odor to the point after being there 10 minutes my lungs started closing up. We moved to a different room, then went out to dinner where I was breathing normally. Went back to the room, same issue with lungs. We had to find a different hotel and still had to pay for 2 nights at the Hamilton since the no cancellation period was in effect. My suspicion is that the issue was their cleaning products. If you have any sensitivity to chemicals do not stay there or at any of the other many hotels that are owned by that company in Mackinaw City (we looked at a few, also with strong chemical smells). We ended up in a mom and pop motel, which was dated but very clean and did not use harsh chemicals. The manager was apologetic but wouldnt budge on the cancellation policy and we paid for 2 hotel rooms for our 2 nights in Mackinaw City.These comments are from a verified stay
