We gasped for joy when we entered our balcony room over the beach! The balcony room allowed us view the most beautiful sunrise we've ever seen! The room was very clean and the Mackinac area artwork was beautiful. The staff was extremely welcoming and very helpful! We arrived after a 13 drive and they gave us our second wind! The staff recommended a beautiful place to watch the sunset by the Mackinac Bridge and the Dixie Saloon restaurant with gorgeous wood beam architecture. The breakfast buffet was served in a large, lovely dining room. I highly recommend this wonderful hotel. We drove from Columbus OH to the Hamilton Inn to be closer to the port This hotel was the best part of the journey. The next day we went to the Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island and what a major disappointment. Poor service/over inflated prices/ over all miserable. View of the lake in the morning was stellar and very peaceful. I'd love it if you didn't use as much disposable cutlery/plates.etc at breakfast. That is a lot of waste when two dishwashers might be cheaper in the long run. Just a thought. I'm sure it is a hard decision to make though given the volume of guests. I was stranded in St. Ignace over night because of the bridge shut down. This was beyond anyones control. It opened at 6:00 AM so I went to my room showered, ate breakfast and began my business day. It was off of the breakfast room so we knew we wouldn't be sleeping in and weren't surprised at the volume. Breakfast wasn't that good but it was free. Hotel was very clean and nice. Only one waterpark was open due to time we chose to go up and that was geared towards younger kids. Kids were happy with the pool and hot tub.
