I would have liked it if the coffe machine was working though. It is hard to find a good cup of cappucino at night. I like the idea of the breakfast room, very nice, although I wish we could take the food to our rooms like other hotels allow you to. We are familiar with the area having visited since childhood. Plus comments: Room was clean, bathroom spotless, nice tv, fluffy pillows, very comfortable mattresses, nice to hear the lake waves and sea gulls (I paid $20 extra although I was told $10 extra for the lake side), breakfast room was nicely arranged with a computer room off to the side and numerous tvs on the walls, beautiful Lake Huron view, and all staff were courteous and polite to us. Negative comments: Two small holes in my bed sheet, tv didn't have the local channels, the quality of the free breakfast was poor although significantly better than other motels in the area - standard waffle maker, mediocre scrambled eggs, sausage patties that looked to be 90% filler, McDonald's-like biscuits but much harder, no potatoes, (bread items okay - cinnamon bread, bagels, and small donuts, and sausage gravy okay), parking lot too small for the size of the motel, there is (of course) no bridge view from the back of the motel and there are big boulder size rocks on beach, "sandy beach" is not white but more of an industrial type sand. Recommendations: All motels in Mackinaw City should upgrade the quality of the free breakfasts - change to continental breakfast, or instead get together and offer quality breakfast buffets. Offer real eggs, sausage, bacon, ham, oatmeal, fresh fruit, croissants, baked goods, fresh OJ, etc. I live in Chicago and love listening to the Pure Michigan advertisements on the radio. They are perfect. Those do draw people to the area from many states. Once the tourists (we fudgies) get to Mackinaw City, the management and staff of each and every motel and restaurant in Mackinaw City should treat guests like Disney World does. Do something about the bait and switch tactics (motel across the street - my experience last summer), broken ice machines, (motel across the street - same) rude managers, etc. (also across the street - same). Plan more music events similar to those that the theater once offered. Tremedous talent throughout Michigan and other states - singing, dancing, acting. That would be a wonderful addition at low cost to the city. More Native American and local history plays, more focus on the art of Native Americans and please, fewer t-shirt shops. To visitors: Don't feed the sea gulls. It's not healthy for the birds and not healthy for humans that swim in the lakes. We had a nice stay at Hamilton Inn. The initial room I was in was surrounded by hockey teams and families and was loud and without question the front desk staff worked to move me to a much quieter area and to a much nicer room overall. The room we were placed in, with an in-room jacuzzi, was very nice and quiet....but when we went to use the jacuzzi, the jets obviously hadn't been used in a while and were dirt filled. BUT given that this wasn't the original room we signed up for and the staff graciously moved us to it to be accommodating, it wasn't that big of a deal overall.
