The Starlite Budget Inn of Mackinaw City has Budget Prices, friendly staff, great location, clean rooms with amenities. We have been in the Mackinaw City area for several years and Personal Service and Hospitality is what we're known for. The Starlite Budget Inn is a clean, quiet Motel with Affordable Prices for all. Located a very short walking distance to Historic downtown Mackinaw City shopping and entertainment, Ferries to Mackinac Island, Restaurants, and to the Famous Mackinaw City Fudge and Ice Cream. However, the switch for the light in the bathroom was in an awkward place.....you had to walk into the room to find the switch The room needed better outlets. Some buried behind a bed or nightstand. The plugs for the TV and refrigerator were in what looked like an extension cord. One light in the bathroom was burnt out (3 light type) The bathroom sink needed adjustment as you had to turn the handle on a ways before you even got water. Initially we thought the faucet wasn't even working. There was no stopper in the sink. The stopper in the tub was sitting out loose. The light to turn on coming into the room from outside was switched off and we had to look around in the dark. Two lamps by bed....one was burnt out. We actually stayed at the same place on our way to vacation and that decided if we would keep our reservation for coming back from vacation. Our room going to vacation was a little bigger and we booked this one via internet. It had the same issued with outlets being available. The people were very nice and happy to give us extra pillows. All in all it was not a bad place. Just some minor adjustments. They made sure we had our breakfast type bag due to Covid .These comments are from a verified stay5 people found this helpful. The office staff and manager are fabulous and are very friendly and helpful. The Starlite is fortunate to have such wonderful employees. We usually stay a night in the city and use it as a send off for an early morning arrival to the island. The staff is friendly and helpful. I noticed that some updates to the room had been done since my last stay. Close enough to walk into town, the pathway was lit making walking into town at night enjoyable. We had to ask the front desk clerk for information. Also should avoid use of extension cords. Room was clean, no odors. Air conditioner a little noisy but not terrible. Continental breakfast was muffins and coffee and some really bad tasting juice. The owner was so, so helpful and kind; he gave us great advice about which type of ferry to take, which made our time on Mackinac Island even better. The location was very convenient to Mackinaw City as well as to the Mackinac Island ferry– we were able to walk from our room to the ferry in no time! The room itself was nice. The only downside was that there was no overhead light in the room, which made turning the lamps on after arriving in the room a little tough. The rooms are a little outdated, but the price cannot be beat if you're trying to make your trip affordable. When we visit Mackinac with the kids, we are simply looking for an affordable and spacious room and that is exactly what you get at this location. I would also like to mention that the lady at the front desk is amazing. Room was adequate, clean and neat, in good condition, no critters crawling around. Appreciated the yard and grills and picnic tables and Spa and hot tub although I did not need to use any of them I thought it was cool that they were there. Free Wi-Fi was a huge hit.
