We had a flight and long drive to the hotel and we arrived a few hours before check in time. They were able to get us in to our room early. It is well worth paying extra for the water front side of the hotel. We were on the 3rd floor and the view from our balcony felt like we were on a cruise ship. I liked that. I slept on the must comfortable beds I've ever slept on in a hotel. We only had 1 negative which is not real bad, but since we were there 3 nights and had 3 breakfasts, we wished there would have been different options. Every day was the same pancakes, eggs and ham. From the manager at the desk, who is always at your service, and assuring everthing is right, and you are happy and taken care of. to all the other check-in personnel.*HOUSEKEEPING: EXCELENT!! We had a lakefront view with a balcony over the beach which was very relaxing. We wanted to stay on the Island, but didn't get a room booked soon enough. The Hamilton was a great second pick, and was honestly a lot more budget friendly. Biggest suggestion would be that they re-work the breakfast room as it was insanely crowded and the layout didn't allow for the line to move very quickly. The location was perfect to walk to Mackinaw Island Ferry and shopping/eating downtown. We loved having a water front balcony, with a pool and hot tub also available. The only reason were not giving 5 stars is because our room was always damp (floors, towels never drying, moisture in air from cooling vent) causing sinus/asthma issues for my husband. We were pleasantly surprised by the fireworks display on the lake that we were able to watch from our balcony. Our kids loved the beach and swimming in the lake. We checked in on Sunday around dinner time and she was just as pleasant as a person could be. She answered our questions and gave us a lovely room. HOWEVER, the most complimentary thank you is because my husband left two chargers plugged in and I called her from the Grand Hotel and she not only located them but put them safely away for us to pick up on Wednesday afternoon. When we arrived early, they allowed us to check in before the regular time which gave us the opportunity to drop off our luggage and have more time to walk around the city. The room was very nice with a big jacuzzi tub in the room. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the room had a very strong chemical smell. It smelled like a very strong cleaner. She apologized and upgraded our room the following night, once the room was available, to a high floor king. She went above and beyond and was very apologetic and showed genuine care for us. You can walk to eat, shop, and to catch the ferry to the island. The views were very good of the lake. The property is in need of some cleaning. There were several light bulbs that were out in our room, making it very dark. My only recommendation would be to tidy up and address a few maintenance issues. We were a school group of approx. 110 people parents of fourth graders and fourth graders with three teachers. I as the group coordinator heard nothing but positive comments from everyone. I would also like you to know we do this every year with our fourth graders. Previous years including last year we stayed at the Bridge Vista Hotel and Convention Center. We will never stay there again. The manager was rude and disrespectful to the kids, parents, myself, and our tour planner! He lied about grab and go breakfast and flat out told me I was not welcome in his hotel because there were too any issues to deal with for the water park. I was so nervous about the Hamilton but knew I would never book with Bridge Vista again! Like I said, we were so pleased with everything at the Hamilton!!! Included breakfast with the room rate although breakfast was very limited and not very good. The coffee was horrible. There was an issue with the water while we were there. The water had to be turned off to be fixed. No one said anything to us about it even though we passed through the lobby on several occasions with multiple front desk staff talking amongst themselves.
